Did you know that Maine is one of the whitest states in the entire country? Being a minority in Maine has been interesting to say the least, most people I’ve met aren’t racist, but it’s a crying shame that we have to share our beautiful land with people who advocate for both Donald Trump and ICE to request that Haitian’s living in our state of Maine be deported. And even worse, the comments under the post complain about how frequently they see minorities on a daily basis.
This is the Northeast Chapter of the White Landowners’ Union, and it has 1.7 thousand members as of February 6, 2025. Looking at it at face value, it may seem like it’s just a regular group of white people who are interested in buying and selling land, and developing properties, but there’s much more than meets the eye.
They advocate for a land movement that is decentralized, where they emphasize the need for white families living together homogeneously, buying land in close proximity to each other, saying it is a “requirement for any race to survive,” and that it will “prevent extinction.” They also believe that there is a planned extermination of the white race due to miscegenation and low birth rates, advocating for a “White-positive educational system” that is in favor of “a pro-White culture.”
One post talks about how “white men are the most creative and industrious people in the world,” and how oligarchs have stolen all of the wealth that they’ve made (because they are under the impression that they have created “almost all wealth in existence”). I want to point something out here, the three brackets around the word ‘oligarch’ are an antisemitic dog-whistle. According to the American Jewish Committee, it is a symbol that is used online to signal or highlight the names of people who are Jewish, or organizations that are owned by Jewish people.
I’m all for living off the grid and being self-sufficient, especially with how the economy is looking. Maine is a beautiful state; it truly is a hidden gem in this country. I’ve met people who couldn’t even place our state on a map. Maine is such a warm and inviting place to live; it has unfortunately been tainted by bigots and white supremacists, trying to push minorities and anyone that doesn’t fit their perfect Aryan fantasy out of this state, and out of this country at large. Look at the current administration, we have a president in the White House who neo-Nazis and fascists look up to (and sometimes denounce for not being extreme enough), who is best friends with the richest man in the world who did a Roman salute on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Maine may be one of the whitest states in the country, but we can’t let these white supremacists ruin it.
